A voting seat on the Coastal Advisory Committee
Steve is an at-large member of Sarasota County’s Coastal Advisory Committee, appointed by the Board of County Commissioners through June 2029. The committee advises the County Commission on coastal issues, projects and programs.
What the committee works on
Inlets and the passes
New Pass and Phillippi Creek dredging, Midnight Pass and the Venice Inlet jetty.
Beach nourishment
Tracking nourishment projects along the Gulf shoreline.
Waterway grants
Reviews West Coast Inland Navigation District grant applications each year and recommends awards.

Five at-large members and four ex-officio: Sarasota County, Longboat Key, the City of Sarasota and Venice. Three-year terms.
Public meetings
Every other month, on the third Wednesday.
Coastal geology
UCSB fine art with a minor in geology, and a lifetime on Sarasota Bay, the Gulf and the passes.
